Since there are many hundreds of birds, it is a challenge to identify each species, but as soon as possible we will complete this list and add the biological name, genus and species, where possible.

Many local names in Spanish are jargon, and have no direct translation into meaningful English. So gradually we will work to figure out a better translation for English.

We have a bibliography on Q'eqchi' diccionaries and vocabularies

We have a separate web site in the FLAAR network where we show all our bibliographies, www.maya-art-books.org. In this web site we have a page listing the best known diccionaries and vocabularios of Q'eqchi' (K'ekchi') Mayan language.

Naturally we utilize these dictionaries to make our word lists, but this work is done by native Q’eqchi’ Mayan speakers who work in our office. We have noticed that the spelling of words varies by region, since Q’eqchi’ is spoken all the way from Alta Verapaz, to Izabal, into Belize and Peten. So our spelling will not always be the same as the spelling in the dictionaries. Also, I prefer to avoid the letters which are not on a normal computer keyboard. In past decades linguists tried to create new letters to better approximate the sound of non-European languages. But these letters were normally totally unintelligible to a normal person, so do not serve a useful purpose to teach people a language.
